Almost opposite our house, a 7-Eleven shop is set to open on 1 August. Barely a month ago, there was nothing but a derelict plot of land on that site. In the photo below, you can see the derelict plot behind the vehicle, with a ‘For Sale’ sign.

For several days, lorries came to deliver earth and level the ground. Then teams of workers came to work day and night for just over a month to build this 7-Eleven shop, which is on schedule and is now set to open. In Thailand, when there’s a construction project like this, teams take turns and work day and night. Really, all night long.
Today everything is ready: the shop is built, the staff are finishing stocking the shelves, and there’s a large car park out front.

It’s true that in Thailand, not much attention is paid to insulation for this sort of building.
So it’s a very quick build, but it’s still impressive, especially as there’s been major work carried out on this site, including channelling the stream and, of course, installing all the water and electricity networks.
